The unfortunate incident happened while the first half was underway.

Nairobi City Stars players and technical bench are counting losses after thugs made their way into their dressing room at Kasarani Stadium during the first half of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League match against Gor Mahia on Sunday.

The thug(s) made away with cash to the tune of Ksh 94,050 as well as 13 phones belonging to players and technical bench members of Simba wa Nairobi.

Only the home team, City Stars, was affected with up to 13 phones stolen.

City Stars players might have left the play area for the halftime already dejected after Gor Mahia equalized with minutes to the break, but a rude shock awaited them in the changing room.

According to a first account narration, the players noticed that their bags had been tampered with immediately they got to the room and a check confirmed their worst fears, with the assailant(s) leaving the window ajar as they left

The unprecedented incident saw the kick off for the second half delayed by over five minutes as the team's management sought to establish what had happened.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport after the game, Nairobi City Stars CEO Patrick Korir termed the incident disturbing, adding that they have already reported the matter to the OCS in charge and will review CCTV footage on Monday morning at Kasarani.

"The theft that occurred before halftime was very disturbing. Imagine leaving the pitch and going to strategize for the second half then you find your bag opened up, your wallet on the floor... That really destabilized the boys and saw the second half start late. We have since taken stock of what was taken and we have reported the matter to the police and have been given an OB number. the Kasarani management has been very helpful and have asked us to back tomorrow morning and take a look at CCTV footage because they have functional cameras only that the offices were closed being on a Sunday. We hope we will get to identify the culprits and take it up from there," Korir said.
