Ochieng came off the bench to score United's third goal of the game
Nairobi City Stars midfielder Newton Ochieng was elated after scoring his first goal for Simba wa Nairobi in the 3-0 win over Mathare United at the Kasarani Annex last week.
The burly midfielder scored the third and final goal of the game in the dying embers of the game. He gave City Stars the much-needed cushion, as the goal came at a time when they were two men down following Vincent Owino and Edwin Buliba’s dismissals.
Ochieng was acquired from FKF Division One side Vapour before the start of the season, and he says scoring an FKF Premier League goal was one of his dreams.
"It has been my daily dream to have a goal in the top flight. When I got subbed in, I knew we were going to have more goals because of the two-goal advantage we had," he told the club’s official website.
He was not the only player to score his first top-flight goal in the game. Striker Kevin Etemesi, who bagged a double, saw his long wait for Premier League goals come to an end, and Ochieng says he was determined to score after seeing the former Kangemi All-Stars end his barren run.
"The urge to score was on me, especially after Kelvin (Etemesi) broke his league silence with a brace. It inspired me to put the ball back in the net even though at that stage we were playing without two players," he added.
The urge to find the back of the net is in him, and he wants to get more in the remaining matches of the campaign.
"It feels good to score, and hopefully in the coming next matches I will go in with the same urgency."
Ochieng will have a chance to score again when City Stars play KCB on Wednesday in a league assignment.
