Clash of teammates: Betis' duo set to miss city derby after injuring each other in a game

The ex-Man United and Real Madrid midfielders, Sofyan Amrabat and Isco, accidentally collided in the UEL duel against Utrecht, picking up injuries that ruled them out for the Seville derby

We've had an example of "friendly fire" on a football pitch just a couple of days ago, when Everton's Idrissa Gueye and Michael Keane exchanged blows, resulting in the Senegalese's dismissal. Still, the Toffees beat Man United and the two reconciled, so everything worked out well.

However, that was a "deliberate" clash, so to speak. Last night, we witnessed a case of accidental "friendly fire" whose consequences have unfortunately been much harsher.

Namely, during Real Betis' UEFA Europa League match against the Dutch club Utrecht, the La Liga side's Sofyan Amrabat and Isco unintentionally collided early in the game, resulting in both players leaving the pitch due to injuries.

Nevertheless, Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini was hit with terrible news only after the clash, as neither of the two midfielders will be available for the city derby against Sevilla, scheduled for Sunday!

The Moroccan reportedly injured his foot, putting his appearance in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations at risk, while the Spaniard's wound required seven stitches on his ankle.

To make matters worse for Betis, one of their best players, Antony, was sent off in the previous La Liga round against Girona, so he won't be at Pellegrini's disposal either.

In the end, Los Verdiblancos won last night's game 2-1, but the cost of the victory was immense.
