Happy New Year, readers!

Residents of Port Victoria in Busia County started their new year wearing smiles that masked the exhaustion that had begun to take a toll on them.

The slow-paced town came to life after Cabinet Secretary (CS) in charge of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Mr. Ababu Namwamba, organized a feast of ages at the Che's Bay Resort on December 31, 2023, to end the year in style for the residents. The stunning lakeside view set up a night to remember.

The day kicked off with various Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities that saw the residents engage in beach cleaning and tree planting activities along Lake Victoria's shores. It was also an opportunity for the friendly locals to share a lighthearted moment with the CS, taking selfies and engaging in traditional dances.

As the clock ticked into the evening, the Ches Bay Resort was transformed into a festive wonderland, adorned with colorful lights, vibrant decorations, and a stage that promised to host some of the best entertainers in the region. The town buzzed with anticipation as people prepared for the night ahead.

When the night finally arrived, the venue sparkled with an enchanting glow. The air was filled with laughter and music as residents gathered, dressed in their finest attire, ready to bid farewell to the old year and welcome the new one with open arms.

The youthful CS then took to the stage to address the crowd. He spoke passionately about the power of unity and community, emphasizing the importance of coming together to celebrate shared values and dreams as the crowd applauded.

"It is a great evening to share this moment with the residents of Port Victoria. I am happy that this event brought together lots of people from across the town. It is a great way to end the year and welcome another eventful one. Thanks to everyone who attended. This is just the beginning. We are looking forward to more exciting days. Happy New Year, everyone!" he offered amidst the applause.

The night unfolded with a spectacular lineup of entertainment. Local musicians, dancers, and comedians took the stage, captivating the audience with their talents. The atmosphere was electric, and as the clock ticked closer to midnight, the excitement reached a crescendo.

When the clock struck midnight, fireworks illuminated the night sky, painting it with a kaleidoscope of colors. Residents were over the moon, with some kneeling to thank God for the new year.

On their side, the residents were grateful for the generosity, noting that they were looking forward to an exciting year.

"We are very happy that he surprised us with this amazing event. We hope that this power of unity and community will continue into the new year," Linda Atieno, a resident of Port Victoria, said.

With the friendly weather, the celebrations hit a crescendo as residents poured into the road to celebrate the new year with dances and isukuti (traditional celebratory dance).
