Dutch midfielder and Barca are still in a tad bit toxic relationship, but the player's will was to stay

For some time, it was like an endless soap opera with all the necessary ingredients and drama involved. Love and hatred, rich club eager to ink the top star of the fallen giants, as they were desperately rushing to get rid of their gem to earn the money they need to survive.

And the player himself, torn by this awkward setup, had no dilemma about where he wanted to be - which was with his old love.

That's how the saga ended, finally. And now Frenkie de Jong has spoken about this last couple of months, revealing the whole truth about it.

He says he never wanted to join Manchester United despite his future at Barcelona being up in the air then.

During the international break with the Netherlands, the midfielder opened up on what went on at a press conference.

"I always wanted to stay at Barcelona, and this is why I always remained calm in the summer," he said.

"I can't give too many details away.

"But look... the club has its own ideas and I have my own ideas too and sometimes this clashes with each other.

"But at the end of the day, things went OK, " De Jong said.
