The team is ready for a battle, says the former Leeds winger
Everton has been handed a 10-point deduction for breaching financial rules. However, Jack Harrison, the first player to speak out since the news broke, believes that the punishment has only brought the club closer together and made the players more determined to come back stronger.
The news of the harsh punishment came as a shock at first, but the former Leeds United winger revealed that the team is not dwelling on the setback and is fully focused on climbing the table to get out of the bottom three.
"We were all taken by surprise. I don't think the club was expecting that, and I think that's why they're going through the appeal and everything. But I'm probably more surprised by the reaction of the players. Everyone is in such a good place mentally, and it's generating a feeling of defiance. Even though we've had 10 points deducted, we'll come back twice as hard and do everything to come back twice as strong."

Everton's first game since their points deduction will be on Sunday afternoon when they host Manchester United at Goodison Park. Toffees fans are expected to protest against the treatment of their club by the Premier League, and they have received support from pundits such as Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher. The supporters are anticipated to create a hostile atmosphere. Harrison believes that the players must use the energy from the crowd this weekend and for the remainder of the season to avoid relegation.
"It's just up to us now as players and as a club, and with the fans coming together to help drive that mentality and that willingness to compete every week and get those points back. And I have every belief that we can do that."
Everton are just two points from safety despite the deduction. If they continue to play like they have done before the international break - they could escape the dreaded bottom-three position.
