Demanding schedule? It's the players' fault!

Legendary Germany and Bayern Munich forward Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, has an interesting view regarding the burning question in football

As if Rodri's injury started an earthquake, the issue of a too-demanding schedule has lately become quite essential. And even though the players are mostly united in the stance that the burden embodied in the great number of games is too heavy, occasionally, someone with a different opinion appears.

After Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich, who declared "he liked to play games," the Bavarians' legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge agreed with his fellow countryman in an interview with Kicker. And not only that - the 69-year-old blames none other than the players themselves for the problem they are facing?!

"The players and their agents have maneuvered themselves into this trap. By demanding more and higher salaries, they are forcing the clubs to generate ever higher revenues. And how does this revenue come from? Through more games," Rummenigge stated.

The German also revealed he fancied the new Champions League format much more than the old one with group stage and fewer matches, calling it "boring."

"The old group stage was boring. After the 4th matchday, things were decided. Now it's more difficult, even for the good clubs, to qualify. What's more difficult is more emotional. I'm convinced the fans will gradually appreciate the new UCL format more," said he.

Moreover, he did not stop there but also supported the organization of the new FIFA Club World Cup, which caused the players' reactions and strike allegations in the first place.

"This tournament, which will take place in this form for the first time next year, will excite people. I am convinced that it will be a good tournament. And it only takes place every four years, we must not forget that," concluded Rummenigge.
