FIFA Best will contest for the Ksh 300,000 up for grabs in the finals of the Dennis Oliech Cup after edging Dagoretti Hotstars in a hotly contested derby that saw Jamal Edmundo sent off in the dying minutes of the game
FIFA Best boasted a number of Nairobi City Stars players including Wesley Onguso, Anthony 'Muki' Kimani, Elvis Noor, Oliver Maloba and Timothy Ouma.
The game was off to a tense start with both teams having to wait for 24 hours to play the clash after their semifinal which was initially scheduled for Tuesday played today following torrential downpour in most parts of Nairobi.
Hotstars who were the underdogs coming into the clash but punched above their weight in the opening exchanges but Duncan Kayoti and Asenwa Robin squandered glorious chances to win settle the early nerves in the clash.
Asenwa missed another guilt edge chance at the stroke of the hour mark when he dinked the ball past the onrushing keeper but watched as his shot hit the crossbar on its way out. Hotstars missed another chance to go into the halftime break in the 44th minute as again Asenwa witnessed his shot parried by the keeper and into the upright with the bounce kind enough for the keeper to gather at the second attempt.
Unimpressed from the lethargic opening half, FIFA Best's head coach Anthony Ndung'u's words hit home as they opened the scoring six minutes after the resumption with Clement Huncho threading a neat through ball to Muki who made no mistake as his shot rippled the back of the net.
After conceding the goal DN Hotstars dominated the second half as they enjoyed the lion's share of possession but failed to trouble FIFA best with the star-studded side aiming to hit on the counter through Clement who instigated most of their counter attacks.
Jamal Edmundo was sent off in the dying minutes of the game for kicking the ball away when the referee awarded a free-kick after he received his first yellow card in the first half.
FIFA Best held on for the win to book a place in the finals where they will face the winner between Bundes FC and Mashimoni FC.
