Dennis Oliech Cup: Bundes take on Mashimoni in semis

The semifinals of the Dennis Oliech Cup will witness hood rivalry as Dagoretti based Bundes FC take on Kibera’s Mashimoni FC with a place in the final at stake.

Torrential downpour forced the first semi-final between FIFA Best and Dagoretti North Hotspurs to be rescheduled today as the NNC Grounds pitch was rendered unplayable with the match set to kick off at 2 PM.

Bundes are one of the tournament favourites and enjoy a huge following and home advantage in the tournament with their games witnessing fans packed to the rafters.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Bundes FC coach Owen Swaleh was bullish ahead of the semi-final and highlighted some of Mashimoni FC’s frailties.

“We have prepared for the game and we are confident of getting a win, we have seen that they crumble under pressure and we will try and pressure them high up the field,”

“We have one injury concern that we hope is not that serious. The tournament so far has been successful, we hope that there will be more editions to come,” said Owen.

Bundes arrived into the last four after eliminating Bul Youngstars in a tense quarterfinal and got the better of Mwat FC in the Round of 16.

Mashimoni FC head coach Philemon Omondi hopes his tactic to hit on the counter will work against Bundes FC who are known for their possession-based philosophy.

“We are in good shape and psyched up for the game I know Bundes are one of the favourites of the tournament, we will approach the game with caution and with the right mentality to surprise them,”

“Bundes are strong in attack but their defence is not that fast so we will look to capitalize on that, we know that the best way to defend is to attack, they are good in possession and we will hope to catch them on the break,” said Omondi.

Mashimoni beat Bright All Stars in the quarterfinals before emerging victorious against Kibera Boys in the Round of 16.
