The title is the Neapolitans' to lose

Salernitana and their new-old head coach Davide Nicola have raised many eyebrows over the past week, but they failed to do so when pitted against Serie A leaders Napoli on Saturday night.

Goals from Giovanni Di Lorenzo and Victor Osimhen on either side of the half-time break put Luciano Spalletti's team in the driving seat at the Stadio Arechi in Salerno, just over 50 kilometres away from their Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

There's been a couple of half-chances on either side, but Napoli kept their nerve and took the lead deep in the first half added time. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa delivered a cross for Di Lorenzo to turn into the goal past Guillermo Ochoa. There's the breakthrough!

The fans hadn't settled into their seats for the second half yet, and Napoli had doubled the lead. Elif Elmas was left with too much space on the edge of the area. Even though Granata were lucky for the curling shot to bounce off the far post, Osimhen was on hand to side-foot it into the net. The hosts appealed for offside, but the goal rightly stood.

Lorenzo Pirola and Krzysztof Piatek had chances for the home side, but Napoli were good value for their lead and could have scored a couple more themselves.

In the end, Spalletti's men took their foot off the gas pedal, content with the result and probably a bit tired of running around in the pouring rain.

The final whistle saw Napoli open a 12-point lead at the top - albeit with a game more. The title is theirs to lose.
