This is the last thing Tottenham, Korea, Son Heung-min and football fans worldwide wanted to hear - but it's reality. The South Korea captain is in danger of missing the World Cup as he needs surgery to repair his fractured eye socket.
The painful and dangerous injury happened during Tottenham's Champions League match at Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday night. He will undergo surgery to stabilise the fracture.
With South Korea playing Uruguay in the World Cup on 24 November, the 30-year-old's participation is in question. Spurs did not put a timeframe on his return in their official statement.
"We can confirm that Heung-Min Son will undergo surgery to stabilise a fracture around his left eye. The South Korea international suffered the injury during the first half of Tuesday's Uefa Champions League victory at Olympique Marseille. Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff following surgery, and we shall update supporters further in due course."
