Alex Moreno will remain loyal to Betis

Nottingham Forest have had a losing start on their return to the Premier League but are still striving to improve their squad, with defenders sought-after goods. However, their pursuit of Real Betis' left-back Alex Moreno has hit a brick wall.

Reports from Spain said the Reds would buy the defender for a fee of around $11 million, plus another $5 million in potential bonuses. However, the former Mallorca and Rayo Vallecano man decided not to leave his homeland after all. The 29-year-old tweeted a statement directed to Betis fans, explaining that the club will remain his home this season.

Moreno confirms that both he and his club received an offer for a move and said he was thankful for the interest. Despite that, he evaluated the situation and decided to stay in Spain for longer. The fullback said that the affection from fans, the sporting project and the confidence they showed in him convinced him to stay at Betis for one more season.

Perhaps the decision is Moreno's evaluation of Nottingham's chances of staying in the division. Or maybe playing for the green and whites of Seville is just too good of an opportunity for the Catalonian who had started his journey at Barcelona's academy.

Forest have already signed two wing-backs following the arrival of Omar Richards, who is out with a leg fracture, from Bayern Munich and Harry Toffolo from Huddersfield. The two-time European Cup winners have overhauled their squad following promotion back to the top flight. They are still in the market for several players, however. They had an offer for Morgan Gibbs-White rejected last week. They are looking to strengthen in midfield with Atalanta's Remo Freuler also a target for Steve Cooper.
