Dortmund sign City's right back on a loan

Last January, they let Thomas Meunier go, and this June, Marius Wolf and Mateu Morey left the team. So, Borussia had to react by acquiring a new right-back, and from today, Julian Ryerson (26) faces tough competition from newly minted Brazil international Yan Couto (22). In fact, it's likely that the former Manchester City player will be the starter, with the Norwegian as his backup. However, Ryerson can also effectively play on the left side.

Interestingly, Couto was allowed to train with his new teammates before all the paperwork was finalized and the transfer was officially announced. However, just a few hours later, that formality was completed. The Brazilian lifted his jersey, officially becoming the fourth major signing for the Champions League finalist, following Serhou Guirassy, Waldemar Anton, and Pascal Gross.

Zero appearances for City but worth 25 million to Borussia

Borussia Dortmund brought in Yan Couto on loan and, as announced on their official website, they are not obligated to purchase Couto next June. It's an optional purchase, which would cost the Millionaires 25,000,000 euros upfront and an additional 5,000,000 in bonuses. Since the Brazilian has a contract until 2026, Manchester City doesn't have much to worry about. If Dortmund decides against the purchase, the English club will have another transfer window to sell the player, who has yet to debut for the Citizens' first team. Last season, Yan Couto played on loan at Girona and performed very well. He scored two goals and provided ten assists. Common sense suggests that he should ideally fit into Dortmund's attacking style of play, where his offensive qualities will be highlighted.
