Alwanga, Oduor back in training
Struggling Mathare United has received a major boost ahead of their next league match after captain Chrispinus Oduor and striker Clifford Alwanga managed to shake off injuries and will now be available for selection.
The two have not featured for the bottom-placed team since sports resumed earlier this month as they have been struggling with injuries.
Coach Frank Ouna has confirmed that the two players are back in training and will be available for the match against Gor Mahia scheduled for June 17th.
“Chris and Alwanga are back and will be available for our next match,” Ouna told Mozzart Sport.

We played a friendly today against @SouthBAllStars at the Goan Institute grounds and won 4-1 thanks to goals from Dani Lual (Brace), Clifford Alwanga and John Mwangi. Collins "Aucho" Okoth grabbed All Stars' consolation. #GreatnessWithin #MUFC pic.twitter.com/EJdBTpTD5m
He went on to explain how the pair’s return will boost the team as they will provide leadership to the young lot.
“Their return is definitely a massive boost for the team because they bring experience and leadership into the team. Most of the players in the squad are young and when you have such experienced players back it’s a huge boost because they will guide the young lot,” he added.
Ouna was also hailed striker Eugene Wethuli after his good cameo performance against AFC Leopards on Thursday.
Despite going down by a solitary goal, Wethuli , who was introduced after the break for just his second appearance for the club caused Leopards problems and Ouna believes he did enough to earn a place in the starting team against Gor Mahia.
“He did enough to show me that he deserves to start in our next game. He hasn't played much this season but when I brought him on in the second half he did very well, and I am happy with his performance,” he told Mozzartsport.
The gaffer also wants his team to shake off the long-balls approach that they have been deploying in recent weeks and go back to the old Mathare United passing brand of football.
“We have been playing long balls and that is not the Mathare style of play. For us to survive we have to play our style. We cannot be changing the style of play every now and then. We have to pick one struggle,” he added.
