Harambee Stars midfielder Duncan Otieno is raring to go after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Having suffered a nagging knee injury that has kept him out of action for three months, Harambee Stars midfielder Duncan Otieno will be back in action Friday evening when his side, Gaborone United, take on Supersport United in a must-win CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie.
In an exclusive interview with Mozzart Sport, the midfielder, who has been on the sidelines for a while, is happy to have healed from the knee injury setback and is looking forward to getting some minutes under his feet when he returns to action.
"It has not been an easy period; honestly, it has been a tough three months for me having suffered the knee injury towards the end of last season, but I am glad to have been able to fully recover from it, and I am looking forward to getting back to action." It feels great to be back in today's matchday squad, and I hope to get some minutes under my feet this evening when we take on Supersport United."
"We really have a crunch fixture, and I do hope to play a role today and help the team progress to the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup."
Despite clinching the Orange FA Cup, the former AFC Leopards captain notes his side came close to clinching the Botswana Premier League but missed out by a point and hopes to better last season's performance.
"Last season, we had a fair outing. We had hoped to go all the way and do a double, but we fell short by a point for league glory. Nonetheless, we are into a new season, and I really hope to play a huge role in helping the team achieve this season's targets by retaining the Orange FA Cup and winning the league with the team."
Otieno, who's in his second stint with the Gaborone-based side, further adds that he hopes to make a return to the national team, the Harambee Stars.
"It is always every player's achievement to turn out for the national team. I am just making a return to action, but I have my work cut out. I have to work hard to get back to my very best hope of getting a place back in Harambee Stars' colours."
