Earthquake in Bergamo: Lookman leaves Atalanta but stays in Italy?!

Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 11.04.25. | 21:00

According to sources from "the Boot," two Serie A giants are interested in the Nigerian net-buster

Following their 1-0 defeat to Lazio in the previous Serie A round, Atalanta almost definitely lost all the chances to stay in the race for the Scudetto with Napoli and Inter Milan. However, that's not the last bad news in Bergamo, as the latest information could cause an earthquake at Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia - Ademola Lookman is set to leave in June!

As Calciomercato.com reports, the player wants to change colours, and Atalanta won't stand in the way of his departure as long as they receive €60 million for his transfer. Yet, what could be a problem for La Dea is that both interested parties come from Serie A, as the same source highlights Juventus and Napoli as leading candidates for bringing Lookman!

Hence, Atalanta would practically reinforce their direct rivals. Nevertheless, they apparently think differently in Bergamo, as Calciomercato.com claims the Old Lady and La Dea's directors, Cristiano Giuntoli and Tony D'Amico, have already met to discuss the Nigerian's eventual move to Turin.

Apart from Juve and Napoli, several Premier League clubs are in the mix for Lookman's next destination, though his episodes in England's top tier with Fulham and Leicester City were pretty substandard. Given that he made a name for himself in Italy, it's hard to think he'd leave the Boot.

The forward's departure could have been foreseen two months ago when he fell out with Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini over the missed penalty against Club Brugge in the UEFA Champions League playoffs.

Regardless, even if he leaves, Lookman's name will forever remain etched in Atalanta fans' memories, as he brought them the first European trophy in the club's history, scoring a hat-trick in a 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the 2024 UEFA Europa League final.
