Brought in to provide what domestic players couldn't, these players failed to meet expectations, leaving their chances of earning another opportunity heading into the new season uncertain
The 2025-2026 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season drew more foreign players.
This was largely due to the decision by FKF to increase the quota from five to seven.

Some of the imports lived up to the expectations, while others flopped massively.
In this piece, we will examine the foreign players who punched below their weight and will have to pull up their socks if their clubs are to retain them.
Patrick Essombe - Gor Mahia
The Cameroonian striker is perhaps the biggest flop of the season.
The Gor Mahia winger struggled to find the back of the net despite making several appearances for the club.
Essombe joined K’Ogalo in February 2025 as the club sought to inject some spark in the forward line.
Despite Gor failing to win a single title in the season, Essombe was spared.
However, he failed to live up to the promise and potential, scoring just two goals in the concluded season.
George Amono - Gor Mahia
The Ghanaian forward was signed before the start of the new season on the recommendation of coach Charles Akonnor
However, he had a poor start to life at Gor Mahia, conceding a late penalty that handed the Kenyan giants a loss in their first match of the season against Bidco United.
Attempts by the technical bench to improve his confidence proved futile as he kept on recording below par perfomances.
For a club that was used to the kikes of Baldwin Ngwa, Dan Sserunkuma, Meddie Kagere and Jacques Tuyisenge, Amonoo is one of the players whom the Green Army would certainly be happy to see him leave.
Rami Coulibaly - AFC Leopards
AFC Leopards secured the signature of the Ivory Coast defender from Moroccan outfit Chabab Alam Tanger in September 2025.
The lanky player was expected to partner with Ken Odhiambo at the heart of the Ingwe defence.
However, he failed to impress the team, with coach Fred Ambani forced to heavily rotate his defence before settling for Emmanuel Lwangu and Kayci Odhiambo.
Prince Buregeya - Nairobi United
2025 Mozzart Bet Cup champions, Nairobi United, roped in the Rwandese defender at the start of the season in preparations for the debut season in the FKFPL.
While the club had high hopes in Buregeya, he did not meet expectations, with Naibois forced to continue with the partnership of Lennox Ogutu and John Otieno, who helped the team secure promotion.
The team had to delve deep into the market, acquiring Steve Biko from Kariobangi Sharks in February.
Biko provided more defensive cover for the team, a job Buregeya had failed to do in the first leg.
Titus Ssematimba - Nairobi United
Another disappointing signing by Nairobi United was the Ugandan side, who joined the club from NEC FC
Ssematimba was expected to bolster the midfield but did not secure regular game time.
The Ugandan rarely made it to the match-day squad for both domestic and continental assignments.
Samuel Quansah - Police FC
The Ghanaian midfielder joined Police FC in February as the club sought to reclaim the Mozzart Bet Cup.
Quansah joined the Law Enforcers from Ghana's Heart of Lions.
While he got plenty of playing time, his performances were way below the expectations of a foreign player.
Charles Waibi - Nairobi United
Just like Ssematimba, Waibi joined Nairobi United from NEC FC in his native Uganda.
Despite the promise, he failed to break into the starting team.
Nairobi United are expected to keep him despite falling short of expectations in his first season at the club.
Frank Ouya - Bandari
The Ivorian failed to have an impact both at Nairobi United and Bandari.
He struggled in the first leg at Nairobi United and endured difficulties in the second leg at Bandari.
