Rui Costa is disappointed with Fernandez's attitude and desire to leave Benfica in the January Transfer Window

Chelsea are about to face Fulham in the opening game of the Premier League matchday 22 on Friday night at Stamford Bridge. The Blues' fanbase will probably still have to wait a little more to see Enzo Fernandez making his Chelsea debut due to some bureaucratic formalities.

The Argentine landed in England on Wednesday but could miss out on the Fulham game this Friday.

"We've got to wait and see with the paperwork to see if he gets the clearance," said Chelsea's boss Graham Potter.

"I've spoken to him, and although my Spanish isn't great and his English isn't great - we needed a translator, but we'll get there. He's an impressive young man. I'm excited to work with him."

However, unlike Potter, Enzo's former president, Benfica's leading man Rui Costa, has hit out at how Enzo Fernandez has forced his way through a move to Chelsea, with the Argentine refusing to play for the club.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Costa explained:

"Enzo Fernandez did not want to stay at Benfica. He didn't give us any chance.

"I did my best, I'm sad, but I'm not going to cry for a player who didn't want to stay. When Chelsea arrived, it was really impossible to change his mind.

"At that point, I said, "He can't play for Benfica anymore, no way!" I don't cry for players who don't want to wear our shirt.

"I had the hope that Enzo would want to fight for the championship title with us. When I realised that he didn't want to, I also didn't want him to wear the Benfica shirt again.

"A player who, even with the possibility of not losing a Euro and with a secure Chelsea contract, does not want to continue, could never stay at Benfica. This player could no longer enter the locker room, "concluded Rui Costa.
