Despite his limited game time, Wanyama holds no bitterness. Instead, he treasures the experience and the championship medal he earned with Gor Mahia

Former Gor Mahia midfielder Enock Wanyama has finally spoken about the circumstances surrounding his emotional departure from the club.

Despite being part of the squad that lifted the 2023/24 FKF Premier League trophy, Wanyama struggled for playing time throughout his stint at K’Ogalo.

The midfielder had joined Gor Mahia during the January 2024 transfer window, but his minutes on the pitch were limited under then-head coach Jonathan McKinstry.

After McKinstry's exit, Wanyama’s situation worsened as he found himself further sidelined. His fate was sealed during the January 2025 transfer window when the club decided to part ways with him as part of a squad reshuffle that saw four players axed.

At the time of his exit, Wanyama shared a heartfelt message thanking the club and fans but refrained from revealing what had transpired behind the scenes—until now.

Speaking on the Zoza Podcast, Wanyama recalled the moment he realized his time at Gor Mahia was over.

"We had agreed to a mutual termination, but even when they called me in, they were surprised. They asked, ‘Wanyama, even all four goalkeepers have played, but you haven’t?’ I had no words. But I knew I was training hard every day, waiting for my opportunity," he shared.

Despite his limited game time, Wanyama holds no bitterness. Instead, he treasures the experience and the championship medal he earned with Gor Mahia.

Looking ahead, he remains focused on his football journey, even though he is currently unattached to any club.

"For now, I’m just training and staying fit. I don’t have a team at the moment, but I believe something will come up soon," he said.

Though his exit from Gor Mahia was unexpected, Wanyama remains optimistic about the next chapter of his career, determined to prove his worth wherever he lands.
