Taya Dok has been a sensation in the stands this season for the 22-time league champions, establishing himself as an integral member of the fan base, and indeed the club as the head of the Gor Mahia choir, which spiced up the league throughout the season.
He has particularly made a name for himself through the now viral K’Ogalo Nyamridhi song, while he has also composed several other songs for the Green Army, which have made him an online sensation.
Speaking at the sidelines of the FKFPL gala awards held at a Nairobi Hotel on Thursday, 4 June, the vibrant fan announced recruitment of new members for the group.
“We are recruiting daily. We started as about 30 choir members, but we are currently at about 15 registered members. We welcome everyone to join us in supporting the club through singing,” said Taya Dok.
The choir was pivotal and impactful to the club and the league that led to Taya Dok winning the Fan of the Year accolade during the gala awards, beating competition from AFC Leopards fan Abraham Otieno, as well as Kakamega Homeboyz super supporter Collins Lumumba.
Having taken the internet by a storm, Taya Dok is now a popular figure among the Kenyan fan base, and opened up on his new celebrity status.
“It is interesting and unique at the same time. I have supported the club as a fan for 18 years and been in the choir for that long, but this season came with its blessings.
It is humbling when people appreciate what you do. It shows that I have been doing the right thing, and just reminds me to stay humble and keep doing what I know best,” he stated.
