South African publication iDiski Times reported on Friday, 5 June that Shumah, 23, was highly likely to sign with the Durban-based side, as it looks to bolster its attacking options.

As per its sources, iDiski were informed that the Power Dynamos man had already agreed terms in principal with the Premiership club, who they labeled as strong candidates to win the race for the highly-rated Kenya international.

The development comes amidst strong interest for the former Kakamega Homeboyz man, who lit up the Zambian Super League last season, netting 21 goals in 25 games, a feat that saw him scoop two league awards; the Golden Boot, and Fans’ Player of the Season accolades.

Just a week ago, Shumah’s agent revealed to Mozzart Sport that up to three African clubs had already submitted formal offers for him, with another, only reporting interest.

Of the clubs who had submitted offers, the agent reported that they were three top-tier clubs from South Africa, Tanzania, and Algeria, with Moroccan side RS Berkane the one to have only reported interest.

From the fresh details, it now seems that the sole South African club AmaZulu has won the race, with the identities of the other teams interested being revealed as: Wydad Athletic, and the Tanzanian league duo of Simba SC and Azam FC.

Having emerged as Kenya’s Premier League top scorer a year ago with 17 goals, Shumah’s path now seems destined for an even bigger move this transfer window, which will potentially see him ply his trade in arguably the best league in the continent.

Should the move materialise, Shumah will join another Kenya international - Paul Were - as the latest countryman for the side, following the latter’s one-year spell in the 2014-2015 season.

AmaZulu, who are set to lose to attacking options in Thabiso Kutumela and Elmo Kambindu ahead of next season, were founded 94 years ago in 1932 as Zulu Royals, before a split in its support base eventually led to its current name in 1974.

Under its current ownership, one of PSL’s oldest clubs has been in the top-tier league since the 2017-2018 season, and finished fourth in the recently-concluded season under head coach Arthur Zwane.

The team, locally known as Usuthu, traditionally wear emerald green for their home matches, and white for their away strips.

Their home ground is the 55,000 capacity Moses Mabhida Stadium, at the KwaZulu-Natal province.
