Fear the mighty Serhou! Guirassy & his National Elephants smash Somalia

Guinea recorded a vital 3-0 win on the road, while Dortmund net-buster once again proved he's one of the best African strikers at the moment
Guinea were firm favourites ahead of the clash against Somalia, the bottom-placed team in Group G of the 2026 FIFA World Cup African qualifiers. Still, their previous duel played in March, in which the Ocean Stars salvaged a goalless draw, urged caution.
At the same time, this was a vital match for Guinea, as an eventual failure would absolutely minimize their chances to qualify for the World Cup.
Nevertheless, as long as the National Elephants have Serhou Guirassy, they don't have to worry! Borussia Dortmund net-buster today broke the deadlock midway through the second half, while Faisal Othman's own goal in the 64th minute and Ousmane Camara's dying-minutes strike definitely sealed the deal for the visitors' vital three points, which moved them closer to the second-placed Mozambique.

The visitors controlled the game from the first referee's whistle, imposing their rhythm. Yet, the visitors failed to create a proper chance until the 22nd minute, when they scored from the first one!
Guirassy exploited a melee in Somalia's box after a corner kick and smashed the ball into the net from close range, giving his crew a critical lead.

Following the opener, relieved Guineans felt less pressure and created several more chances. Somalia's custodian, Abdirahman Mohamud Jama, stopped Seydouba Cisse's effort, Issiaga Sylla attempted from a free-kick, while Guirassy netted another goal four minutes before the break, but this time, it was ruled out for offside.
On the other hand, Somalia had only two futile attempts in the first half over Ali Musse and Yasir Saad.
However, the second period didn't begin as expected for the National Elephants. They took a few corner kicks, but the home crew seemed more motivated and almost turned that determination into a leveller! Saad hit the target at the hour mark, but his goal was disallowed, and Guinea were saved. Yet, that moment was a huge warning for Paulo Duarte's men.
Only minutes later, Musse threatened from a free kick, forcing the Portuguese gaffer to make a double sub and sent in Ousmane Camara and Salifou Soumah for Cisse and Aliou Balde. And the impact was visible just two minutes later, when the visitors doubled their lead behind Faisal Othman's own goal!
Somalia boss Yusuf Ali Nur tried to mix things up with several subs, but his team failed to make an impact offensively. Moreover, they conceded the third goal in the dying minutes, as the sub Camara scored his second national team goal, allowing the National Elephants to peacefully await the final ref's whistle and celebrate their triumph.
