Fan unrest at Kakamega High School Outer Field caused an abrupt stop to the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Group B clash between St Joseph’s High School Kitale and Uganda’s St Mary’s Kitende (SMASK) on Sunday,17 August, afternoon.

The disruption came in the 72nd minute after agitated fans disagreed with the referee’s decision to award the Brown Saints (St Joseph’s) a free kick rather than a penalty.
Kitende were leading 2-1 when the game was halted.
Ashraf Kyakuwa and Dennis Kisiriko had netted for SMASK while Collins Mwalati was on target for the Cosmos Nabolongo-coached side.
Kitende, who looked destined for victory, would have moved to nine points with a win, needing just one more victory in their remaining two games to confirm a knockout place.
The fate of the match now rests with the FEASSSA board, which will deliberate on the outcome.
Both teams came out attacking from the start, trading runs and shots as the game settled into a fast tempo.
St Joseph’s, roared on by their supporters, pushed forward through Collins Mwalati and Instin Simiyu, while Kitende responded with sharp midfield passing that forced the Brown Saints to defend deep.

In the 23rd minute, Kitende broke the deadlock.
Kyakuwa found space in the box after a neat exchange with Denis Kisiriko and coolly slotted past goalkeeper Delvin Vuradi to put SMASK 1-0 ahead.
The goal lifted the Ugandans, who pressed even harder, pinning Jobo into their half with quick-fire attacks from the flanks.
Despite the pressure, Jobo showed flashes of danger on the break, with Mwalati testing Kitende’s defence on two occasions.
However, the Saints could not find the finishing touch, and the half closed with Kitende deservedly leading 1-0.
St Joseph’s returned from the break with renewed energy.
Just two minutes in, Tony Mwale missed a golden chance in a one-on-one situation, shooting inches wide.
Their persistence paid off in the 58th minute when Mwalati rounded the SMASK goalkeeper to bring the Brown Saints level at 1-1.
The equalizer set up an end-to-end contest.
Kitende launched waves of attacks but were met with fierce counters from Mwalati and Simiyu.
In the 65th minute, Kitende came close again, forcing goalkeeper Delvin Vuradi into a fine save from a free kick, with the rebound deflected for a corner.
The tension boiled over when St Joseph’s broke on a counterattack, forcing a SMASK defender into handling the ball just outside the penalty area.
The referee awarded a free kick, sparking outrage among home fans who felt a penalty should have been given.
The protests escalated as fans invaded the pitch and surrounded match officials.
Objects were hurled, forcing police to intervene.
The referees were hurriedly evacuated in a Toyota Probox through Kakamega High School’s administration block.
That marked the premature end of the encounter, with Kitende still holding a 2-1 lead.
The FEASSSA jury will now determine the official result.
