Wiyeta have won the regional title thrice and they will be seeking their fourth on Sunday afternoon.
Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) football girls silver medalists Wiyeta Girls on Saturday qualified for the girls' football final after knocking out holders St Noa Girls of Uganda on the penultimate day of the Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) games stage in Huye, Rwanda.
The record Kenyan women's discipline champions secured an impressive 2-1 victory over the reigning champions in a pulsating semi at the University of Rwanda stadium.
Nabyonga Suzan capitalized on the Trans Nzoia County Champions defensive mix-up to break deadlock and have the Uganda silver medalists ahead before Melitus Muchera unleashed an outrageous left-footed thunderbolt from the edge of the box to level the scores heading into the break.
Wiyeta, under the tutelage of Edgar Manyara, looked more dangerous on attack immediately after the restart, and it paid off in the 59th minute as Edna Wonder latched on to a pass from Muchera to chip over St. Noa's custodian and hand the three-time East Africa Secondary School Games champions a lead and a slot in the finals slated for Huye on Sunday.
The final whistle sent Wiyeta players and the technical bench into a frenzy as St. Noa, who approached the match as the favorites, shook their heads in disbelief as they couldn't believe they had lost.
Wiyeta coach Edgar attributed their success to teamwork and resilience.
"We came prepared for the finals, and we have executed our plan well together as a team. Our focus now is on the final match ", he offered.
Wiyeta, who are looking to equalize Arch Bishop Njenga Girls record at the regional stage, will clash against two-time FEASSSA girls and Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association champions Kawempe Muslims, who edged Amus College 2-1 in an all-Ugandan affair semi-final.
