Figo in the stands – a humiliation to Barcelona
Reading Time: 3min | Wed. 01.10.25. | 18:58
The most hated person in the city will be a guest as UEFA ambassador
Everything looked like Barcelona winning the Champions League last season, but PSG shattered that dream with a convincing 4-1 win at Camp Nou in the returning quarterfinal leg (after Araujo’s red card). Now, the Barca players are out for revenge, and Pedri even admitted it. But the fans have other problems. One is certainly the venue, as Camp Nou is not prepared yet and Monjuick stadium has the capacity of ‘only’ 55.000 seats and many fans won’t be able to attend. The other one is Luis Figo. Without a doubt, he is the most hated player in Barcelona since 2000 and will remain so probably until he dies. It has been reported that he will attend the game too.

Luis Figo’s Pig Head Incident – 2002
The Betrayal: Figo left Barcelona for Real Madrid in a shocking transfer in 2000. When he returned to Camp Nou in 2002, angry Barça fans threw objects at him, including a pig’s head, during a corner kick.

An excellent player while at Camp Nou, he decided accept a transfer to Real, when Florentino Peres forked out 60 million euros (a world record in 2000) for him, which was his release clause at the time. The fans went mad and even threw a pig’s head at him when he played in Barcelona as a Real player in 2002, which is still to this day one of the most bizarre incidents ever at at football match. In October this year it will be 25 years since that happened, but the hatred towards Figo in Barcelona is still strong. Former Real captain will arrive to the match as official UEFA ambassador, which is quite logical since he played for the Catalans, but this is not an ordinary player.
Even in 2025, Figo was accosted by a Blaugrana supporter, who called him a "traitor". Joan Gaspart, former president of Barça between 2000 and 2003, never minced his words and declared, "Figo is the only enemy of FC Barcelona". A statement that sums up the depth of the injury. Even during the Women's Champions League final in Lisbon this year, the former Portuguese captain was booed by Catalan fans (Barca played against Arsenal). RMC Sport writes that a big debate is going on in Catalonia ahead of his arrival. On RAC1, the program Tu Dirás denounced a "humiliation" for Barca, believing that the protocol teams should have anticipated the inevitable controversy. Some commentators went further, calling Figo's recent stance on the club "indecent" and stating that he "shouldn't set foot in the Blaugrana dressing room". The hatred is still alive.
