Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has predicted a comfortable win for Kenya when they face Seychelles in a World Cup qualifier on Monday at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny Abidjan in Cote D’Ivoire.
Kenya heads into the match ready to correct the wrongs from the Gabon clash staged on Thursday that saw the Stars concede in the 88th minute to lose 2-1.
The defeat left Kenya at the bottom alongside their Monday opponents who shipped in nine goals on Friday night against Ivory Coast without a point, same as the Gambia, while Ivory Coast, Burundi, and Gabon are on three each after matchday one.
Friday night's results meant that Stars can't not afford to drop points against the lowly-ranked Seychelles and any other team in pool F going forward if they are to keep the qualification hopes alive.
Firat who is yet to recover from the pain of letting in a goal deep into stoppage time said the team was braced up for the Seychelles challenge.
He hinted of having some of the injured players back in the team, and available for selection.
“To concede a goal in the last minutes hurts a lot but it does not change our minds for our future. We have to win the next match. Next time we will have our full squad to show how good we are,” said Firat.
The tactician, who has led Kenya to three wins since his appointment, also emphasized the need to pick maximum points noting that the group is highly competitive.
“We will go there to win, there is no other point because we need these points. In this group, all teams are very close to each other so every point you get in every match is very important,” expressed a confident Firat.
Besides winning for the sake of qualification, the team will be keen on silencing critics who over time have questioned the abilities of Firat since taking over the reins at the national team.
