Kenya's suspension is expected to be lifted in the coming days following Mwendwa's address to world football governing body FIFA
After ten months of frustration, arrests and being locked in the cold, embattled Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa has crept back to life after confirming his resumption to office with immediate effect.
In a letter dated 8 September 2022, Mwendwa, who was thrown out of office by outgoing Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed back in November 2021, informed world football governing body FIFA that he had assumed his responsibilities as FKF President for the first time since his ouster which led to him handing over power to FKF Vice president Doris.

In this regard, following the withdrawal of charges by the Directorate of Public Prosecution on July 8, 2022. I hereby wish to inform your good office that I have resumed my duties as the FKF president, with immediate effect, in accordance with Article 42 of the FKF constitution (2017),” Mwendwa told FIFA President Gianni Infantino in his address.
With Mwendwa having been kicked out of office and a government appointed FKF Caretaker Committee, which has morphed to a FKF Transition Committee, appointed to take charge of footballing activities in the country, FIFA pronounced an indefinite suspension on Kenya in March 2022 due to government interference.

In light of the letter from Mwendwa, Kenya is expected to get out of FIFA’s bad books as the governing body had made it clear that the only remedy to the suspension would be if the Cabinet Secretary’s decision of appointing a Caretaker committee was repealed and that they received confirmation from FKF that their seized premises were back under their full and conditional control, a directive Mwendwa confirmed in his address.
“The federation has made significant progress towards complying with the FIFA directive of February 24, 2022 with a meeting scheduled in the coming days with the newly elected Kenyan government, to actualize the lifting of the FIFA suspension and Kenya's return to international football. Kindly accept, Dear President, my utmost gratitude,” he said.
