FKFPL: AFC, Kenya Police clash highlights action as league enters Week Four

Reading Time: 4min | Sat. 23.09.23. | 09:00

All matches kick off at 1500 EAT

Redemption could be the key word of the day as the Football Kenya Federation Premier League enters Week Four this weekend.

Saturday 23 September afternoon will provide four matches across different venues in the country, and with it, a chance for teams to ease down existing nerves, and some, to raise more questions within their loyal fanbases, and perhaps, their own board rooms.

No team is on a 100% record as it stands already, but this could be the day where some storylines are made.

Kenya Police vs AFC Leopards.

Two limping teams yet to taste a win this season will collide at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani at 3PM EAT.

The only differences between these sides would be that one has at least scored a goal this season, while the other, is yet to get into any considerable rhythm, and its manager surely on the brink - or maybe I read too much on a National Executive letter reaffirming trust in a manager who by all signs, is clearly being pushed through the door by his own fans.

A late goal to salvage a point against Shabana FC last weekend might be the tonic for Francis Baraza’s side, but on their path stands an Ingwe side that is unbeaten against Kenya Police in the Premier League.

No way this game should be termed as El Sackicco. Surely not.

Tusker FC vs Muhoroni Youth.

A win against Bandari away from home on the opening weekend might have been a welcome sight for The Brewers but since then, a point against Kariobangi Sharks and a humbling on the road against Kakamega Homeboyz last weekend leaves Tusker in desperate need of a win.

Two new signings sealed as the transfer window shut could offer Robert Matano’s side much confidence against a winless - albeit unbeaten - Muhoroni Youth, and the worst thing for the home side would be to look back at a devastating road loss to the formerly termed Wazito side in June last season that took their title charge off the rails.

A win for Tusker could see them move joint top of the league, with Gor Mahia and leaders Posta Rangers uninvolved in the day.

Game kicks off at 3PM EAT at the Ruaraka Grounds.

Shabana FC vs Kariobangi Sharks.

Normal weekends of poise and the home side for this afternoon’s fixture - Shabana FC - could be looking at the rest of the teams with an unbeaten record, and multiple wins.

However, their tendency to leak late goals has seen them drop crucial points in all their opening three matches this season, something their head coach Sammy Okoth believes has to come to an end.

“Conceding late goals three times in a row has been frustrating. The boys have been losing concentration and getting punished for it. I am, however, confident that the work we have put in and the team talk will save the day,” Okoth told Mozzart Sport on Friday, even as he readies his team against an unbeaten Kariobangi Sharks.

A calm start to the season owing to a tough schedule for the visitors took a turn last weekend as they scored twice through Geoffrey Onyango and Stanley Wilson to dispatch KCB, and with five points in the bag, three points from the Homa Bay Stadium could see them go top.

Match kicks off at 3PM EAT.

Bidco United vs Talanta FC.

Winless Bidco FC welcome Talanta FC at the Kasarani Annex aiming to do away with three disappointing draws to Nairobi City Stars, Nzoia Sugar and Posta Rangers.

Ken Kenyatta’s side on the other hand, will look at a last gasp win over the weekend and a dominant head to head record over Bidco as reasons to climp up from the seventh position they currently occupy.

In four matches between the two teams, Bidco’s only win came in January this year, with Talanta winning the rest with an aggregate score of 4-1.

Match kicks off at 3PM EAT.
