The first-round meeting this season ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for K’Ogalo, while last season Homeboyz failed to beat the Nairobi giants after settling for a barren draw before later losing 2-0 in the reverse fixture

Kakamega Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has fired a bold warning at Gor Mahia ahead of Sunday’s FKF Premier League showdown.

The club boss insists the record champions should brace themselves for another painful afternoon whenever they step foot in Kakamega.

With the title race entering its decisive stretch, Gor travel to Mumias Sports Complex knowing victory could hand them a massive nine-point cushion at the summit after rivals AFC Leopards saw their fixture against Ulinzi Stars postponed.

But while K’Ogalo view the fixture as a golden chance to tighten their grip on the title, Homeboyz appear determined to turn the afternoon into another statement performance against the league leaders.

Shimanyula, never one to shy away from mind games before a big fixture, declared that Gor Mahia should expect the same “dosage” they often receive whenever they visit Kakamega.

It will not be business as usual for Gor Mahia. They know the kind of dosage we administer to them when they come to Kakamega and it will not change. We will give them the same dosage of defeat,” Shimanyula told Flashscore.

The outspoken chairman maintained that Homeboyz are not interested in helping AFC Leopards in the title race, insisting their motivation is purely driven by their own ambitions of finishing the campaign strongly.

“We know they are fighting for the title, but they must know we don’t care about their chase for the title. We have our own ambitions to finish high up the table and we want to win all our remaining matches,” he said.

“We will not have mercy for Gor Mahia, we will not spare them. It will be a game like any other. We will fight for every ball because we want to show them we have a good team. It will not be easy for them, they should come prepared to pick their goals in sacks of bags.”

Shimanyula also brushed aside suggestions that Homeboyz could be motivated by their close relationship with AFC Leopards, commonly referred to as their “in-laws” in Kenyan football circles.

“It is not the case, we just want to beat Gor Mahia and I want to tell them money will not buy points. If they talk about money, we also have money,” he added.

The Homeboyz boss then turned his attention to the fans, urging them to fill Mumias Sports Complex while promising goals and entertainment against the defending champions.

“The fans should come in numbers because they will watch an entertaining game. We want to score at least four goals in the first half. If possible, we want to beat them even 5-0. I know it is possible and my players are ready.

Despite the bravado from Shimanyula, recent meetings between the two sides slightly favour Gor Mahia.

The first-round meeting this season ended in a narrow 1-0 victory for K’Ogalo, while last season Homeboyz failed to beat the Nairobi giants after settling for a barren draw before later losing 2-0 in the reverse fixture.

However, Homeboyz will draw confidence from the 2023/2024 campaign where they stunned Gor Mahia 1-0 in the first leg before forcing another goalless draw in the return encounter.

Heading into the fixture, Gor Mahia sit top of the table with 61 points collected from 18 wins, seven draws and four defeats, while AFC Leopards remain second on 55 points.

After the Kakamega assignment, Gor Mahia will still have to navigate difficult fixtures against Kenya Police, Murang’a Seal, Mara Sugar and Nairobi United as the battle for the title edges closer to the finish line.
