The forward moved to Zambia in the mid-season transfer window in January.

Kenyan international Vincent Oburu has signed a three-year contract with Zambian side Zesco United, the club has confirmed.

The 24-year-old extends his stay with the multiple champions having initially signed a six-month-long contract when he joined the Zambian league giants earlier in January.

Zesco United's Head coach Numba Mumamba has expressed his delight with Oburu’s decision to extend his stay at the club, saying that Oburu did wonders in his probation period at the club while hoping he continues the same into the new season both locally and in continental assignments.

“We are very happy as a technical bench because the period that we gave Oburu to prove himself, he did wonders. We only hope that what he showed us is what he will give us in the upcoming season and in CAF competition,” Mumamba said as quoted on the club's portal.

In a post-match interview in February, Mumamba explained that they needed more time to assess the Kenyan before committing to handing him a long-term deal as he is young and needs closer observation.

The Kenyan took only 21 minutes to announce himself to Zesco's faithfuls, scoring in his debut as the Ndola-based side saw off rivals Nkana FC 2-1 in February, being involved in both goals as he set up one more and was consequently named the man of the match.

His flying start was cut short however after he suffered a leg injury that kept him out of action until the end of the season but will be raring to go in the new season as the nine-time Zambian Premier League champions aim to mount a strong comeback both in the domestic league and in continental action.

Oburu has previously turned out for Wazitpo FC and AFC Leopards in the FKF Premier League and is a full Kenyan international who was part of the Harambee Stars team that lifted the 2017 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya.
