The experienced tactician, who previously handled Murang’a Seal in the FKF Premier League, makes a much-anticipated return to the Tanzanian top flight barely a year after leaving in October 2024.

His comeback also arrives just four months after mutually parting ways with Murang’a Seal following unsuccessful negotiations on renewed working terms.

Mtibwa Sugar confirmed Chipo’s arrival on Monday evening through their official platforms, welcoming him with a brief but symbolic caption: “Our new Gaffer.”

Upon his unveiling, Chipo expressed delight at joining the club, drawing parallels between Mtibwa and Kenya’s famed youth-nurturing side, Mathare United.

He praised the club’s football identity and pledged to build on its existing philosophy.

"I am happy to have a chance to join Mtibwa Sugar. This is a great club because it believes in nurturing talents, and I can compare it with Mathare United FC back in Kenya, who are known for producing talented players,” Chipo said.

He also acknowledged the team’s recent struggles, having dropped to the second division before reclaiming their place in the NBC Premier League, and rallied all stakeholders to unite behind the club’s quest for stability and survival.

"I urge everyone to come on board and help the club maintain its premiership status by picking up points in our matches,” he added.

“I am coming in and won’t change much because the club plays the kind of football that I love, keeping possession, knocking the ball around, and attacking with precision. I will simply enhance that philosophy.”

Chipo is no stranger to Tanzanian football. Before his recent stint in Kenya, he served at Coastal Union and Tabora United.

He spent four months at Coastal Union between September and December 2022, departing on mutual consent.

The tactician later joined Tabora United as assistant coach, a role he held for close to two years until October 2024, when he was relieved of his duties.

Shortly after, he returned to Kenya, taking charge of Murang’a Seal, where he served for half a season before leaving in September.

Chipo will now be tasked with steering Mtibwa Sugar up the 16-team league standings, where they currently sit 12th on five points, just two ahead of relegation-threatened KMC.
