Four-time champions Ulinzi Stars have a date with Nzoia Sugar at the Sudi Stadium
Record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia launch their bid to retain the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table with a clash against Sofapaka at the Kasarani Stadium.
The game is the highlight match of day one of the 2023-2024 season that, will see four matches played across different venues.
Initially, the league managers had planned for five fixtures to be played on day one but, the clash pitting Mozzart Bet Cup champions Kakamega Homeboyz against KCB was postponed as Abana Abeingo are out of the country.
Gor clinched their 20th league crown last season in the final day of the campaign and will look to start the current term on a winning note.
Sofapaka on the other hand, struggled with consistency last season but there could be a ray of hope for the 2009 league winners following the arrival of experienced players who joined the club last month.
Among those who signed for Batoto Ba Mungu include the Burundian duo of Fiston Razak and Moussa Omar who, boast of continental experience and have previously played in the Kenyan league.
Last season, the two sides labored for barren draws in both legs. Statistics from the last thirteen meetings lean on Gor’s side as the Johnathan McKinstry coached side has won eight of those duels, lost once to Sofapaka and registered four draws.
Last season’s runner up, Tusker will also be been action today as the brewers are lined up to take on Bandari at the Mbaraki grounds.
Tusker, lost the title race to Gor last season by a point and in the last day and will start the campaign with hopes of wrestling the crown from the hands of K’Ogalo.
Other matches scheduled to be played on Saturday include the tie between Kariobangi Sharks and the high-spending Kenya Police that will be played at the Kasarani Annex.
