Frank Ouna earns glowing plaudits for miracle works in Rwanda

Former Mathare United head coach Frank Ouna has earned himself raving plaudits in Rwanda where he is currently making his coaching debut in the country in charge of Musanze FC.

Having taken over the club at the start of the 2021/2022 Rwandese top-flight Premier League season, the Kenyan coach has gone beyond expectation in leading Musanze as he has recorded 8 wins, 8 draws and six defeats in his first 22 league games in charge, consequently getting the club upto seventh place on the log table.

Following that start, Ouna, popularly known as Furo, has been ranked one of the current four top coaches in the country by Rwandese publication The New Times for his tactical prowess that has seen him mastermind wins over revered top club APR FC and forced a point out of Rayon Sport and AS Kigali.

“The Kenyan trainer is one of the most efficient coaches in the league this season as he has built an exciting team at Musanze FC. He was appointed as head coach of the Northern Province club in September 2021 and his first season was a success. Ouna beat APR FC and recorded draws against both Rayon and AS Kigali. He has guided Musanze FC to eight wins, eight draws and six defeats in 22 games this season as they sit seventh on the league log with 32 points,” the statement read.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, the head coach expressed his delight for the recognition that saw him turn around early critics who had had given him little chance of surviving in the new territory.

“I have seen what the papers say about my work here so far. I am happy that they rank me very highly. Initially, at the start of the season, they were saying I was coach number 4 who was going to be sacked. Ironically, I am the fourth best coach now. To be ranked in that position with seven games to go having been in the pre-quarters with Rayon Sport where we drew 0-0 in the first leg is a testament of how much work I have put here with my assistants and is a recognition of the quality coaches we have in Kenya,” he exclusively told Mozzart Sport.

“When I came in, I had followed the history of the club over the years and I realized the last time they had finished in the top six was ten years ago. Statistically, they were always battling relegation and when I came in, I changed a few things which have helped us stay constantly in sixth place on the log which is a big achievement comparing it with other previous results,” he added.
