The experienced Dane signed a two-year deal with the Bundesliga club
Although many predicted an early end to his career after the 2020 European Championship and the implantation of a defibrillator, Christian Eriksen did not want to give up. Not only did he refuse to quit, but he will now play in the Bundesliga for the first time, having signed a two-year contract with Wolfsburg this Wednesday. In recent days, the media had been reporting that Eriksen was on the verge of joining Bayer Leverkusen, where he would have reunited with his compatriot and national coach Kasper Hjulmand. However, the experienced midfielder chose Wolfsburg instead, which came as a surprise to many.

Eriksen has gone through a turbulent period in recent years. After parting ways with Manchester United this June, he maintained his fitness by training with Swedish side Malmo, while carefully considering his next club. Before United, he spent six months at English side Brentford, where he managed to return to top-level football after suffering cardiac arrest during Euro 2021. Prior to his Premier League return, he played for Inter Milan, winning the Serie A title in the 2020/21 season. He made his name at Tottenham Hotspur, where he spent seven years and played a key role in the team that reached the 2019 Champions League final. He began his career at the famous Ajax academy, where he developed into one of the best midfielders of his generation.
This transfer marks a new chapter for Christian Eriksen, who will play in the Bundesliga for the first time in his career. His experience and vision on the pitch are expected to significantly strengthen Wolfsburg’s midfield. With 144 appearances, Eriksen holds the record for most caps for Denmark. Although he was not included in the latest squad due to being without a club, he is expected to return to the national team, especially now that he has secured a contract with Wolfsburg.
