L'Equipe reports that the Manchester United defender is considering a return to Lens in the upcoming transfer window
Raphael Varane is frustrated by his demotion in the Manchester United hierarchy and would therefore be open to a departure from the Old Trafford outfit, L'Equipe reports on Tuesday.
The much respected French daily sports newspaper claims that a move to Saudi Arabia is impossible, unlike a move to his boyhood club, Ligue 1 side Lens.
In the past, the reliable centre-back said he would finish his career at Real Madrid, Manchester United or Lens. Therefore, a return to Lens is something we could actually see shortly. However, a deal could prove financially difficult for Lens.
The Frenchman has a contract with the Red Devils until July 2025, but he has gone down in the pecking order under Erik ten Hag. With Manchester United struggling, a squad rebuild is reportedly envisaged. Varane is one of the assets the club is looking to sell, potentially as soon as the January transfer window.
