Masha was one of the shock exits at Mozzart Bet Cup champions Homeboyz at the end of last season
Gaetan Masha’s next destination after leaving Kakamega Homeboyz FC still remains a mystery as the left-footed attacking midfielder, returning from his native DR Congo, reveals that he is yet to make up his mind.
Masha was one of the shock exits at Mozzart Bet Cup champions Homeboyz at the end of last season. A key figure in Coach Patrick Odhiambo’s set-up, the midfielder would find playing time hard to come by in the second leg of last season and for one used to playing, exiting was inevitable. He says he made peace with the fact.
‘’I had really wanted to be part of the continental team because that has always been my dream, it is any player’s dream to play there. A decision was reached to let me go and I have made peace with that,’’ reveals Masha.
At the time of his exit, such teams as Nairobi City Stars, Sofapaka and Nzoia Sugar had shown interest in having the quick-footed forward but he opted to head back home first.
‘’I needed to take some time off. It had been a long season, playing both the league and the Mozzart Bet Cup so I didn’t want to rush into a decision. I am back now,’’ he adds.
Nzoia Sugar, the team that gave Masha his first start into Kenya’s top flight have started rebuilding their team after losing close to 20 players. With the way old boys of the club are making their way back to Sudi, they look solid as top contenders for Masha’s signature. He admits that they have already made contact.
‘’At the moment I wouldn't want to say I am going to a specific team but yes, Nzoia have called me but I am yet to get there. I just arrived from home yesterday. There are offers from other teams too so I’ll have to first settle then decide where to go,’’ continues the 23-year old.
Nzoia in its incoming legion of players have so far managed to bring back Collins Wakhungu, Brian Wepo and Steve Wakhanya, all of them former players. Other new faces are Noah Wafula and Meshack Karani.
Nairobi City Stars on the other hand, chose to focus on roping in fresh untested-in terms of top flight action- players. It is not clear whether their initial contact with Masha will be reactivated. The third side interested in the Congolese was Sofapaka whose transfer activity has seen them rope in new players then release them before the ink is dry.
