The team is travelling to Istanbul with only a handful of available first-team players
It was not as good game for Bayern on Saturday as it was the result – 3-1 win over Mainz. But just a day ahead of the Champions League duel with Galatasaray, Bayern is facing an injury crisis, as the Bavarians have only 14 healthy outfield players. Leon Goretzka is the last in long line of injured footballers. The scorer in win against Mainz got a hand injury which turned out to be metacarpal fracture and the German international had to endure a surgery yesterday. He reported to his followers on his Instagram account that everything went well, and the Bavarians announced that Goretzka will miss ‘the next few games‘. That means that apart from tomorrow, he won‘t be able to help his teammates against Darmstadt, in the DFB Cup in Saarbrücken, in Dortmund and at home against Galatasaray.

But coach Thomas Tuchel is not only concerned about Goretzka. And injury to such an important players is always a thing to worry about, but when there is a bunch of them in the team, the problem is even bigger. Raphael Guerreiro, Dayot Upamecano, Serge Gnabry, Manuel Neuer and Noussair Mazraoui are all on the treatment table for a long or short period of time. The likes of Frans Kratzig and Aleksandar Pavlović (who?) were on the bench in Mainz and will likely take their places in Istanbul. Tuchel can replace Goretzka with Konrad Laimer, but the Austrian international was playing as a right back in Mainz since Mazraoui is injured and will likely do so on Tuesday, leaving only Kimmich in the middle of the field. So, Musiala will likely move further down the pitch to support Kimmich, which means that Thomas Muller will be behind Kane. That leaves a single defender on the bench, a rarely used Bouna Sarr, white there is no senior player in the team! Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Tel are the only forward players available, unless Sergy Gnabry manages to recover to be at least on the bench...
