The clubs a player represented are one thing, but the national togetherness always comes first

Premier League fans remember Michael Essien very well. The Ghanaian spent nine seasons at Chelsea and won as many trophies with the Blues, including two Premier Leagues and the 2012 UEFA Champions League. During his "golden years," he was the team's motor and one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe.

And although people nostalgically feel that old times were way better than the present, Essien opposed this assertion, claiming that one current PL midfielder is better than him. However, the name did not come from his former club's ranks but from their London rival, Arsenal!

"Between myself and Thomas Partey in our primes, I don't think I would pick myself. I would go for Partey. He is a fantastic midfielder, you know," Essien said in an interview with Sporty FM.

Although the 42-year-old neglected the rivalry between the London giants, he prioritized national unity, significantly supporting his fellow countrymen. And when those kind words come from a legend like Essien, their importance is priceless.
