FC Talanta man over the moon after getting his first league goal

FC Talanta winger Anthony Gicho is a relieved man after opening his Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) goal account last weekend. Gicho who was named last season’s National Super League best midfielder found the back of the net when the league debutants forced Ulinzi Stars to a two all draw in Nakuru.

Gicho struck from the spot to cancel Masuta Masita’s opener a goal he says took the pressure of getting his first in the competition off his shoulders.

Talanta who were seeking to redeem themselves from a 3-0 loss inflicted by Bandari in round five had been awarded the penalty after Ulinzi left back Harun Mwale handled in the box.

I badly wanted to score my first goal in the league in the match after failing in the previous five attempts. I was under intense pressure to collect the ball from the net but I can now settle and search for more,” he said.

Having gotten off the blocks albeit belatedly, the former Gatongora United midfielder who finished last season with ten goals to his name said he will be hoping to surpass the tally and guide the club to a respectable finish.

Talanta were promoted to the league after conquering the second tier. They were elevated alongside the struggling Vihiga Bullets and Kenya Police.

I will try my best and better my last season’s tally. I know the stage is different but it is miles better than the second tier. I have to take the chance given in every match and try to capitalize on the mistakes by the opponent. The team has adapted well to the league and I am sure we will finish in the top ten," he added.
