The 43-year-old former Italy international Gianluigi Buffon is close to signing a deal with Parma
Like every other incredible journey that eventually sees a passenger's return home, Gianluigi Buffon's stride is reaching its end at the very place where it all began almost three decades prior.
A long, long time ago... Buffon at Parma (©Claudio Villa/Getty Images)The 43-year-old Italian keeper is on the verge of joining Parma, his boyhood club, which he left in 2001 to pursue a splendid 19-year-long career with Juventus, split by a sole campaign at Paris Saint-Germain.
After winning many Italian championships and World Cup titles, the veteran custodian has decided to return to his maiden slot.
No longer part of the Azzurri playing setup, he wants to continue playing and will do so in Serie B as Parma target an immediate return to Italy's elite. Buffon will allegedly sign a contract until 2023 and return to the club that he helped to win the UEFA Cup, Italian Cup and Italian Super Cup.
