Glorious past, painful present - woeful Milan ruin its 125th birthday party

It must be challenging if you're an AC Milan fan older than - let's say - 35, 40. Because, then, you surely remember those glory days of the Rossonerri, which started in the late 80s and lasted all the way until the mid-00s. So many titles, so many legends, so much to celebrate...

Tonight, they finally had an enormous reason to throw a party at the mythical San Siro since Milan was celebrating their 125th birthday, and they managed to spoil it. To ruin it, big time!

Before the match against Serie A strugglers Genoa, a bulk of AC Milan legends showed up on the pitch to wave to the crowd. Baressi, Rijkaard, Gullit, Van Basten, Inzaghi and many others were there to support Paulo Fonseca's side. It appeared in specially designed retro shirts, nothing short of brilliant, with red and black stripes, while keeper Maignan wore an all-black kit. Everything was so stylish and smooth... except for the team and the game itself.

It was a dull, goalless draw against Patrick Vieira's team. Another painful-to-watch performance of Fonseca's squad, which has recorded a single victory in the previous five Serie A games. Morata, Leao and others created a handful of decent goal-scoring chances but couldn't get past Genoa's keeper, thus settling for a disappointing eighth place.

It started with applauses and standing ovations; it ended in booing and insults from their own fanbase.

Fonseca's time in the dugout seems to be ticking away...
