Goal drought that could prove costly for Unai Emery's Ast0n Villa

Reading Time: 2min | Tue. 16.09.25. | 14:43

Not a single goal in four games for the Villans. They are the only one of 251 sides in the top seven tiers of the English football pyramid yet to score

That stat sounds strange, even bizarre - Aston Villa are the only team in the first seven tiers of English football that have yet to score a single goal in the 2025-26 season!

You'd have to go all the way to the 11th division and Norwich-based Acle United - who are yet to score in the Anglian Combination in Step Seven - to find the next team not to have scored.

Unai Emery's lot has played four Premier League games and is flirting with the bottom after collecting just two points thanks to goalless draws with Newcastle United and Everton.

It is the first time Villa have failed to score in five consecutive Premier League games since a run of six between December 2014 and February 2015. This is also their worst start to an EPL campaign since 1997-98.

The director of football operations, Damian Vidagany, however, believes better days are yet to come.

"A point that doesn't shine, yes, we need goals, of course they will come... but a point that strengthens us and our spirit," he wrote on X.

"We're working well and we'll soon improve. The first stone of a magnificent construction never attracts the attention of spectators. But it's very necessary."
