The Reds lose the sixth consecutive home game, this time against Fulham (0-1) and fall to the middle of the table
Liverpool fans had arranged an airplane to fly over Anfield Road during the Liverpool - Fulham tie, with a message from them "Unity is strength - Let's go Reds". But even that wasn't enough. Jurgen Klopp's outfit lost another home game, the sixth in a row, which has brought them on a verge of catastrophe.
The Scousers netted last time at their soil, penalties excluded, on 28 December against WBA. Since then it has been an awful losing streak for them and no one can foresee the end of that horror. The same coach, the same players, but everything is totally different for all the wrong reasons. That's why even modest, yet die-hard, Fulham's side managed to clinch a vital, unexpected victory in their relegation battle. Scot Parker's guys kept the composure and patience for the entire 90 minutes and reduced a margin between them and 16th Newcastle to only one point.
It was all-Fulham first half. Maja's volley went just a little wide of the bar 15 minutes into the game. The same player was once again in action ten minutes later but couldn't nail it from two attempts in front of Allison. But what he missed, Mario Lemina didn't. He scored his maiden goal in the Premier League just a minute before the half-time whistle. And what a beauty it was. He, firstly, took the ball from Salah after the spot-kick and then placed it smoothly into a far corner. Who could have thought at that moment that we won't see another goal in this fixture.
The Reds were deplorable in the first half, with Shaquiri's slightly inaccurate free-kick as the only effort worth mentioning.
Areola made a spectacular save only a few seconds after the break, stopping Diego Jota's ferocious volley that would be considered one of the best goals of the season if it wasn't for Fulham's custodian. However, not even Areola could save Sadio Mane's header twenty minutes before the end, but a long-travelling ball ended on a crossbar. Shaquiri stepped up once again a few moments later, with the same outcome as in the first half.
Without pace and courage, the Reds didn't deserve to score and lost the match due to a visible lack of energy and determination. Klopp is facing the worst days since he came to Anfield and his job in Liverpool is not safe any more.
