Gonzalez will be hoping head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has seen enough to include him in the Harambee Stars squad that will take on Egypt and Togo
Kenyan international Ismael Athuman Gonzalez was an unused substitute when his Las Palmas side fell to an eleventh defeat of the season in La Liga 2 of the Spanish league. The 26 year old defender could only watch as Girona came from behind to win the game 2-1 at Las Palmas’ home ground Estadio de Gran Canaria.
It is Las Palmas who took the lead just three minutes to half time through a penalty kick. Captain Alvaro Lemos stepped up and slotted in a very cheeky but smartly taken penalty, sending the goalkeeper in the wrong direction to ensure they got into the break with a 1-0 lead. Just two minutes after the restart of the second half, a defensive mishap from Palmas would allow Senegal international Mamadou Sylla to restore parity by tapping into an empty net with the onrushing goalkeeper well beaten.
Sylla would then turn provider for the second goal as he did all the hard work with the ball in the box before 18 year old Brazilian Yan Couto finished the move, completing the turnaround in the 64th minute. That defeat left Las Palmas in 12th position on 39 points.
Las Palmas head coach Pepe Mel was left disgruntled with how his side played and lost the game.
"We gifted Girona the win," he said disappointingly.
Coach "Ghost" Mulee will name the #HarambeeStars provisional squad for the upcoming qualifiers against Egypt and Togo, tomorrow.

Gonzalez has so far played 330 minutes for Las Palmas in the 2020/2021 season making a total of five appearances. Out of the five, the defender has started and completed three full games and has come from the bench twice to feature in the game. He has been named on the bench on seventeen other occasions. Being a defender, Gonzalez has one yellow card to his name.
With the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers set to be concluded from next week, Gonzalez will be hoping head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee has seen enough to include him in the side as the Harambee Stars head coach names his squad later on today.
