Stars travel to Turkey in two batches.

Gor Mahia right-back Rooney Onyango is enchanted after earning his first call-up to the national team, the Harambee Stars, and is in line for his debut against Russia.

The defender was named in the squad that will face Russia in Turkey on October 16 in an international friendly match. His inclusion is a reward for what has been an exceptional start to life at Gor Mahia. The former Wazito FC man has featured in all of Gor’s games this campaign and has a goal to his name.

On the national team, he will compete with Daniel Sakari and utility man Amos Nondi for that right-back berth.

In an interview, the player expressed his happiness at finally getting the chance to make his debut, terming it a dream come true.

"It feels good because this has been my goal since I started playing football; it is a dream come true for me. I want to thank the Harambee Stars technical bench for showing faith in me, and I will strive to give my best in national team colors," the marauding right-back stated.

Stars travel to Turkey in two batches. The first left on Monday morning and has already touched down in Antalya, while the second leaves on Tuesday. The team will pitch camp in Turkey for five days before playing the 2018 World Cup hosts.
