Apha Onyango’s decisive strike proved the difference in a tightly-contested derby against AFC Leopards, a result that not only secured bragging rights but also strengthened Gor Mahia’s grip on the title race.
With just five matches remaining, the win has placed K’Ogalo firmly on course for what could be a 22nd league crown, following their 2025 disappointment.
Taking to his Facebook page on Monday, April 27, 2026, Otieno expressed deep gratitude to the fans whose unwavering support has driven the team throughout the season.
“We want to take a moment to sincerely appreciate all our fans for their incredible support. Your energy, passion, and belief in the team continue to drive us forward every single day. That derby win was massive, an important result, especially at this crucial stage of the season. It’s more than just three points; it’s a statement of intent and a reflection of the hard work and unity within the team,” he wrote.
The skipper emphasised that while the derby triumph was significant, the mission remains unfinished as the title race enters its decisive phase.
“This victory marks an important step in our journey toward the title, but the job is far from done. With five matches still to go, every moment counts. Now more than ever, we need you with us. Let’s stay united, stand strong together, and bring that same dedication and energy all the way to the finish line,” Otieno added.
Even before the derby, Otieno had stressed the importance of the fixture, describing it as more than just another match and a test of Gor Mahia’s mentality in the title push.
“Playing against the AFC always comes with a good feeling and is a motivation for us players in itself. It’s a game with stakes raised high, and for me, it is a big game, not only here but also across East Africa. We are ready as Gor Mahia to give a good show on Sunday,” he had stated.
With momentum now firmly on their side, Gor Mahia head into the final stretch of the season knowing that destiny is in their own hands, but as their captain insists, the push to the finish line will require unity, belief, and unwavering support from the stands.
