The glamorous accolade is the highest professional rank for a lawyer in Kenya, accorded to only the cream of the profession after rigorous scrutiny.

To achieve the rank, lawyers must have at least 15 years of post-admission experience as an advocate of the High Court of Kenya, be of unmatched integrity, and demonstrate high professional conduct with no disciplinary actions for misconduct.

The lawyers must also demonstrate significant contributions to the development of law through landmark cases, scholarly writings, and teaching law, as well as exemplary advocacy in higher courts.

To achieve the title, interested advocates apply to the committee on Senior Counsel who advertise after a number of years, vet candidates to the stringent requirements and then recommends deserving candidates for conferment by the President.

It is this criteria that Rachier finally passed after years of being bypassed, much to the dissatisfaction of many in the legal profession.

The Gor Mahia honcho has over 51 years of experience as an Advocate of the High Court, having been admitted to the bar in 1971, and has made significant contributions in the legal sector.

The Alliance High School alumnus holds a Bachelor of Law Degree (LLB) from the University of Dar-es-Salaam, and a Master's Degree in Law (LLM) from the University of Nairobi.

Additionally, he has a Master of Arts in Translation from The University of Nairobi, and a third Master’s Degree in Bioethics from Trinity International University.

The seasoned football administrator also obtained a Diploma in French from the University of Madagascar.

In legal practice, Rachier has earned a reputation as one of the top lawyers in Commercial Law, Conveyancing and Health Law.

In conveyancing, Rachier played a pivotal role in the revision of Land Laws to conform with the 2010 constitution, and is well known for his proficiency in property transfers and securities perfection.

His contributions in the health arena includes chairing the Kenya AIDS Society, the Task Force on Laws relating to HIV/AIDS, as well as the implementation committee of the Report of the Task Force on legal issues relating to HIV and AIDS.

In the football world, Rachier took over the reins of the chairmanship of Gor Mahia from Erastus Okul in May 2008, and has spearheaded the club’s growth on the field of play, including ending the club’s 18 year wait for a league title.

Under his leadership, K’Ogalo has won nine FKF Premier League titles, four FKF Cups, six Super Cups and two KPL top 8 titles.
