The Briton was sacked in January 2022, just six months into his reported two year contract

Record Kenya Premier League champions Gor Mahia have kickstarted the process of sorting out their financial debts by clearing the dues owed to former English head coach Mark Harrison, Mozzart Sport can reveal.

The 19 time Kenyan champions had been left with another potential breach of contract on their hands when they sacked the former Southampton keeper alongside his assistant Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo and goalkeeper trainer Jerim Onyango back in January 2022, just six months into his reported two year contract with the club.

Since then, K’Ogalo had promised to pay out the exit clause in Harrison’s contract but a long delay in doing so almost made the English tactician take legal action by reporting the team to world football governing body FIFA.

But soon after landing a new sponsor in a deal valued to be around 80 million per season for the next three years, Gor have now evaded potential damages by settling the debt ranging just under two million shillings.

“Gor Mahia cleared with me only last week, seven months later. They paid me in stages and finally received the last batch so I can confirm we are settled,” the head coach told Mozzart Sport.

K’Ogalo found themselves on the wrong side of the law after FIFA handed them a transfer embargo till 2023 due to the cases by former employees who reported them of contractual breaches and won the case.

Among the former staff that dragged the club to FIFA over pay disputes stretching back five years include coach Steven Polack, Tanzanian winger Dickson Ambudo and Ugandan defender Shafiq Batambuze.

Others are Ghanaian midfielder Steven Owusu, Congolese forward Sando Sando Yangayay and Malian Goalkeeper Adama Keita.

Meanwhile, Harrison has landed a new job in Malawi where he was unveiled as the new technical director at top tier side Mighty Mukuru Wanderers.

The head coach assumed a similar role at Kenya’s Emerging Stars Academy but financial differences led to his exit back in June after a short stay.
