Despite nursing the wounds of a bitter Mashemeji Derby defeat, Gor Mahia still found reasons to smile thanks to the millions of shillings collected from the sale of match-day tickets.
In an update on their official social media channels, Gor Mahia announced that they had collected Ksh 7,011,500 from the match staged at the Nyayo National Stadium.

This represents their highest collection this season and the first time they crossed the million-shilling mark since the introduction of online ticketing in April.
The derby haul marked a significant rise from previous matches.
Against APS Bomet, Gor Mahia earned just Ksh 360,400, their lowest this season, while the previous Mashemeji Derby-held at Raila Odinga Stadium on 2 June, saw the club collect Ksh 2,152,700, a whopping Ksh 4,858,800 million less than Sunday’s collection.
This is the third time Gor Mahia has banked millions from gate collection this year.
Last month, the club banked Kshs 1,323,800 in their match against four-time league champions, Ulinzi Stars.
Against Leopards, Gor fell 1-0 to cede the derby's bragging rights to their eternal rivals.
The match-winning moment came in the 24th minute when Julius Masaba tapped in a rebound from a volley by Tyson Otieno, sending the ball past the Gor Mahia goalkeeper Bryne Omondi.
Masaba’s strike proved decisive as Ingwe secured their 29th derby win, their second in over two years and a third in nearly a decade.
For Leopards coach Fred Ambani, the result extended his unbeaten record in the storied rivalry, marking the third time he has avoided defeat in the Mashemeji Derby as a coach.
Conversely, Gor Mahia’s new coach suffered his first derby loss, a bitter pill to swallow after months of preparation and optimism.
