Bryne, one of Kenya’s standout performers at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), made his debut for K’Ogalo last Sunday in a 1-0 defeat to Bidco United.
While the start was far from ideal, the shot-stopper remains optimistic about turning things around.
The former KCB FC gloveman shared what drew him to the 20-time league champions.
“Gor Mahia is the biggest team in the country, and it’s both a dream and an honour to play for them,” he said. “I’ve come here to fight for titles. That is my main aim and expectation with this club.”
The experienced custodian brings a wealth of domestic football experience, having previously featured for Tusker, Mathare United, KCB, Bandari, Posta Rangers, and Agro Chemicals.
His consistency and heroics during Kenya’s CHAN campaign made him a top target for new Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor, who is determined to assemble a squad capable of reclaiming domestic dominance and competing on the continental stage.
Bryne, who was named the Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) Sports Personality of the Month of August, admits that joining a club of Gor Mahia’s stature was an opportunity he could not pass up.
Beyond the chance to lift trophies, he sees the move as a platform for personal growth.
“We’ve already started training, and I want to push myself to achieve more. I hope to win more awards like the one I received recently,” he told the club's media team, reflecting his hunger for both team and individual success.
His arrival comes at a pivotal time for K’Ogalo, who are under pressure to reclaim the FKF Premier League title after enduring a trophyless campaign last season.
With the club’s passionate fan base demanding a return to glory, Omondi’s experience, leadership, and composure between the posts could be crucial in strengthening Gor Mahia’s defence.
